Easy Salsa Burgers – Healthy Low Sodium Recipe

Salsa burgers are my husband’s go to meal back in the day! Since he has been working on lowering his blood pressure, we made them low sodium and no salt added!

We also made a no salt added, low sodium version of Paula Deen’s Corn Salad too!

These no salt tortilla chips are my secret weapon!

Ok let’s get to cooking some dinner for my husband! We love grilling together on a beautiful spring evening!

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground chicken (you can use any ground meat or meat replacement)
  • 1/2 cup pico de gallo (I used hot for extra heat)
  • 1/2 tsp each mushroom powder, garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, paprika, cumin

Directions:

  1. Using a slotted spoon, pull the pico out of its juices and measure. Then mix that with the chicken and seasonings.
  2. Form into burger patties and pop into the freezer while you preheat your grill so that they’re easier to maneuver.
  3. Use parchment paper so you can easily release your burgers when grilling. You don’t need them to be frozen, just more firm. But you could also freeze them ahead of time with a piece of parchment between each salsa burger.
  4. If for someone reason you’re really struggling with the wetness, you can always throw some bread crumbs in there but I didn’t find a need personally.
  5. Grill salsa burgers and top with whatever your heart desires! I did some plain non fat Greek yogurt, spinach, avocado, cheese, more pico de gallo, sautéed onion and peppers and fresh jalapeños! So delicious!
