Healthy French Onion Dip & Chips (Low Sodium, Low Fat)

The classic French onion dip that we all know and love is my favorite in all the lands! We call it ‘Grandma Dip’ in our family!

As we age, more and more are we finding the need to eat healthier alternatives when and where we can. So this is my weeknight healthier version of the classic French onion soup dip and chips.

This sodium free beef bouillon is the star of the show. I got this one on Amazon but I’ve seen them at my local grocery store free. Make sure it’s the sodium free kind if you’re looking to keep your blood pressure down.

I also love this big container of dried onion from Amazon to have on hand to whip up this healthy chips and drip for our reality tv show nights.

French Onion Soup Mix Recipe (Sodium Free)

Ingredients:

Directions:

Mix all ingredients together and store in an air tight container to use like you would for your regular French onion soup mix.

I love using plain non fat Greek yogurt in place of sour cream for all things savory. To be honest, it’s how I prefer to eat it, you have to put way too many sweet things in it if you’re going that route to make it good.

Add 16oz plain non fat Greek yogurt with the French onion soup mix and there’s your classic French onion dip or ‘grandma dip’

I go back and forth with the chips I use for this healthy French onion soup dip, it’s hard to find one that is both low fat and unsalted, so I switch each time. Kettle Chips has an unsalted one is good but also these Cape Cod 40% less fat salt and vinegar chips are so good!

Either way, cutting almost completely back on sodium and fat in the French onion dip helps balance the sodium or fat you’re going to get from the chips. Is it perfect? No. But it’s the closest you can get to a health version of the classic French onion dip and chips.
