Greek Yogurt Bagel vs Cottage Cheese Bagel – Which is the better Recipe?

Have you seen these viral Greek yogurt bagels and cottage cheese bread recipes? Minimal ingredients, easy prep and delicious results!

Let’s try both of these bagel recipes and see which one is the clear winner! I’ll share some products and tips along the way. All the products I use are from Amazon.

I always recommend sifting your flour when baking. Making these bagels is no different. I really love this old school traditional hand crank sifter. It is so easy to use.

Or you can use a mesh strainer too. It’s a multifunction tool, which is nice.

If you use self rising flour, these Greek yogurt bagels and cottage cheese bagels are only a 2 ingredients recipe. I use all purpose flour and baking powder instead. I used these pink measuring spoons for accuracy. You can certainly add salt too, I’m choosing a no salt added because there is sodium in baking powder.

I love these metal bowls for baking and cooking because they’re super lightweight!

The white ramekins are perfect for pre measuring your ingredients. I actually use them as my regular bowls for every day use. They make great cereal bowls. I also use them in the air fryer too, they fit two perfectly.

I use a wooden spoon to mix my ingredients because it’s one of the easiest utensils for bread doughs like bagels. Then I move to my hands to finish working the Greek yogurt or cottage cheese into the flour.

I love these bench scrapers. You can use the oval edge to scrape out a bowl and the straight edge to scrape your bench and cut your bagel dough.

We love a multi functional tool!

I love the different sizes that come with this pink silicone spatula set to get all the cottage cheese from their containers.

And then you have to do an extra step with the cottage cheese and blend it before using for this cottage cheese bagel recipe.

That’s the first downfall for me for the cottage cheese bagels because that’s an extra annoying step with extra dishes. I don’t love that. And of course it has more fat and sodium than the plain non fat Greek yogurt bagels.

The key to making these Greek yogurt and cottage cheese bagels is the egg wash. Crack your egg in your white ramekin.

Give it a good whisk.

And then brush the egg on your Greek yogurt and cottage cheese bagels. Make sure to get in the hole. I used parchment paper and pamela because I wasn’t sure and I didn’t want them to stick.

The cottage cheese bagels are on the left and the Greek yogurt bagels are on the right.

Look at how pretty these Greek yogurt bagels are! I did half of them with everything but the bagel seasoning from Trader Joe’s. They came out super awesome and delicious! I found that 1 1/4 cups flour + 2 tsp baking powder added with 1 cup plain non fat Greek yogurt makes a good Greek yogurt bagel.

Now to these dang cottage cheese bagels. Because I made these bagels second and I already needed more than one cup of flour like most recipes said because of how I struggled with the Greek yogurt bagels, I added the full 1 1/4 cups flour to the cottage cheese bagels. That was a mistake. I think with the Breakstone’s Live Active 2% milk fat cottage cheese, you may only need 3/4 cups flour to be honest. It was just way too much flour.

The recipes circulating for these viral cottage cheese bagels and Greek yogurt bagels are all supposed to be 1 cup all purpose flour + 2 tsp baking powder with 1 cup of either plain non fat Greek yogurt or blended cottage cheese. I found that not to be accurate with both recipes. The Greek yogurt bagels needed more flour and the cottage cheese bagels needed less flour. But more importantly, you had to use extra dishes for the cottage cheese bagels.

These are the specs for each bagel recipe.

I will always make the Greek yogurt bagels over the cottage cheese bagels. I had them for breakfast the next morning with some cream cheese and a hard boiled egg. They toasted great!
