Chicken Bacon Ranch Puff Pastry Pinwheels Recipe

My pinwheel obsession continues to grow with these chicken bacon ranch pinwheels in the shape of hearts. I usually use crescent roll dough but this time I switched to puff pastry because it was on sale. These pinwheel recipes are perfect for parties, football games, any sports games really, Valentine’s Day, holidays or just a fun evening at home to spice things up.

My advice when using puff pastry instead of crescent roll dough for pinwheels is that you have to slice the puff pastry pinwheels a little thinner than the crescent roll dough or it’s impossible to get the middle cooked all the at through. With crescent roll dough, you can leave them a bit thicker.

Make sure to soften your cream cheese before hand. if you forget to leave it for room temperature, just pop it in the microwave for a few seconds to soften it up so it’s easier to mix.

I used leftover homemade shake and bake style chicken I had but if you don’t have any, a rotisserie chicken, shredded, from the grocery store would be perfect for this. You could do plant based chicken too if making for vegetarians.

I had leftover over bacon too but you can use the bacon bits from the store. The imitation bacon bits are vegan so you can make this for vegetarians or the real bacon bits are even better if not.

I used extra sharp white cheddar cheese because it’s my favorite but you live your life babes. I also add some mozzarella, not for flavor but for texture, it is a stretchier cheese.

And then roll each side of the puff pastry towards the middle, this is what makes the heart shape. If you’re not into the heart shape, just roll it up for a circular pinwheel.

It’s helpful to put the roll in the freezer for a few minutes before cutting so it’s a cleaner slice but I don’t always do that, so that’s up to you. I think this is why I like pinwheel recipes so much because they’re very flexible and don’t have to be perfect.

Ingredients:

  • 1 sheet puff pastry (1/2 of Pepperidge farm package, double the rest of the ingredients if using the whole package)
  • 4oz cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tbsp dry ranch seasoning
  • 1/4 cup green onion
  • 1/4 cup chicken
  • 2-3 tbsp chopped bacon
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F
  2. Mix all ingredients (except puff pastry) together
  3. Spread on puff pastry, roll up and cut into 16 equal slices and place on 2 parchment lined baking sheets so they can spread out a bit
  4. Bake 25-30 minutes
  5. Enjoy!

They’re so cute, they’re so crispy, they’re so flakey and they’re so freaking delicious!

This may be one of my favorite pinwheel recipes thus far in the pinwheel game!
