Easy Protein Energy Balls 3 Ways (GF)

I love a protein snack in between meals as a pick me up. So let’s try 3 different protein energy balls and see which is better nutritionally but also tastes great! We will try a cosmic brownie protein energy ball, a peanut butter chocolate chip energy ball and a blackberry cheesecake energy ball.

Be sure to watch my video for more info and fun!

Spoiler alert, they all did get eaten by me and my husband throughout the week, so they must’ve all at least been decent, but I’ll tell you my favorite protein energy ball. First, let’s talk products that help achieve the myriad of protein energy balls. All products discussed in this blog post are from Amazon.

I used Bob’s Red Mill for my gluten free protein energy ball flours. I really like the almond flour compared to generic because it’s super fine. I also was surprised at how much I liked the coconut flour despite not particularly liking coconut in general.

I highly recommend using a sifter to sift your dry ingredients because almond flour and protein powder can get a little clumpy, so this helps to get your ingredients mixed thoroughly. Speaking of protein powder…

I love Orgain Organic Protein Powder. It is plant based protein powder I used to use when I was vegan but still use it because I just really like the flavor and how it mixes into my smoothies. I used both vanilla protein powder and chocolate protein powder for these protein energy balls, but also in daily life.

You don’t need a danish dough whisk but I’ve been obsessed with it since I bought it. It’s great for bread type doughs too. I use it for my focaccia pizza every weekend. It has made my life so much easier.

You also don’t need disposable gloves but I like to keep my nails from chipping. I also like to not have to wash my hands a million times because they’re always dry, especially during the weekend.

If you’re baking or cooking daily, or even weekly, may I also recommend this metal bowl set. It comes with different sizes, they’re super lightweight and are great for making multiple things at once and getting all of your ingredients ready to go, you’re mise en place.

I also love this pink measuring spoon set

They even have a 1/2 tablespoon size, which I can’t tell you how often I use. They’re metal so they’ve held up really well so far.

Ok let’s start with the Cosmic Brownie Style Protein Energy Balls Recipe:

Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. Sift the almond flour, protein powder and cocoa powder.
  2. Add everything else together
  3. Roll into balls and store in fridge

These made 9 brownie protein energy balls for me. I’ll leave the nutritional info here that I used through myfitnesspal.

I’ll share my favorite at the end if you’re impatient and want to just scroll down. I don’t blame you. The rest of us will continue on with the Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Protein Energy Balls Recipe:

Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. Sift together the almond flour and protein powder together
  2. Add the rest of the ingredients
  3. Roll into balls and store in the fridge

These cute flower decor, flameless tea light candle and dining table for 2 all make this feel so cozy. It’s perfect for our little studio space as extra counter top type prepare area for making delicious food. Bonus that my husband and I can both sit at it and share a meal together too.

Again, those nutrition facts are from MyFitnessPal.

Let’s talk Blackberry Cheesecake Protein Energy Balls.

You don’t need a ninja, any high powered blender will do. I just love this one because it’s similar quality to a vitamix at a fraction of the cost.

These pink silicone spatulas come in a set with different shapes and I love them! They’re also heat resistant which is awesome.

This is the cottage cheese I use because it’s not salt added. It’s hard to find a product like this but I recommend, especially if you have blood pressure issues. This brand from Giant and Lucerne from Safeway are the only ones I can find that are no salt added, but feel free to use any cottage cheese of your choosing.

Blackberry Cheesecake Protein Energy Bites Recipe (Version 1)

Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. Sift together the coconut flour, protein powder and Splenda
  2. Blend the cottage cheese, lemon juice, blackberries together
  3. Combine the two and add water if needed
  4. Roll into balls and store in the fridge

So, these balls were just ok. I decided to make them again the next day. I liked this second version better but the nutrition facts are a bit different so if that matters to you, the first recipe is better. If flavor and texture is more important, the second one is better.

Blackberry Cheesecake Protein Energy Balls Recipe (2.0)

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup vanilla protein powder
  • 1/2 cup coconut flour
  • 3 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup no salt added cottage cheese
  • 2oz softened cream cheese
  • 1/2 cup blackberries
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract

Directions:

  1. Sift together the coconut flour and protein powder
  2. Blend the cottage cheese, cream cheese, blackberries, vanilla extract and maple syrup together
  3. Combine the two
  4. Roll into balls and store in the fridge

This 2.0 version of blackberry cheesecake protein energy balls are still pretty good nutritionally and it makes the most out of all of these protein energy balls recipes, at 14 balls.

Like I said before, they’re all decent recipes that we ended up eating. I personally liked the brownie protein energy balls first but I prefer them to sit out of the fridge and warm up before enjoying them. The ones I like the most directly out of the fridge are the peanut butter chocolate chip protein energy balls. The blackberry cheesecake protein energy balls were just ok for me. They’re better if you add some strawberry or blueberry whipped topping from Target.

What other kind of protein energy balls have you tried? There are so many I still need to try!

Ok love you bye

All 3 look very tempting. Well done! I would like them all, but if I could only choose one it would be the peanut butter version – I just think PB makes a great in-between-meals snack.
